“We like to start off on the right hoof. A calf with a good start will make good beef.”
For the Morrisons, farming is truly a family business. Brian Morrison’s grandfather started the farm, and it continues to be passed down, first to his father Albert, then to him, and he hopes to one day pass it to his son Ben.
Raising beef is not Brian’s only occupation, he also grows potatoes. “Potatoes and beef kind of enhance each other. Your extra potatoes from your farm can be fed to the animals. Manure goes back on the ground, which enhances the soil, which then grows better potatoes. The two businesses go hand in hand, each making the other better”.
The Morrison Farm was one of the first to join the Certified Island Beef Program. “We were looking for a niche market to raise our animals for and Certified Island Beef was to be a perfect fit.”
